cpu governour is set to performance on every boot to ensure good gaming performance.
fstab will be edited with the “noatime” parameter for even more performance.
usual softwareupdate
Short devnote:
I want to thank all of you for bugreports, mentions and suggestions making lazyvoid
better and better on its road to a niche distribution for lazy void users and linux newcomers.
Happy holidays to everyone, see you in 2026

firstboot script optimized
softwareupdate
20250819
Fixed an error in Firstboot script wich stated that xbps needs an update all the time.
softwareupdate
20250706
Some changes to make void perform better in gaming
SPIRV and glslang are now preinstalled for better shader handling (this change will not be applied through the repository)
swappiness reduced to 10
limit are now set so lutris wont threw out errors
usual softwareupdate
20250520
blueman removed, integrated gnome-bluetooth does the job
lts-headers are now part of the image and won’t be installed with firstboot
default language and keyboard layout is now german due to the main audience, this may change in the future
20250515
LTS Kernel is now persistent
First boot script optimized
Making some progress on calamares installer, maybe land in testing soon
20250423
It was brought to my attention that more ‘intensive’ software like games or streaming or both aren’t very performant on some setups. After a few days of troubleshooting the solution is to utilize gamemode on gnome to oost performance significantly. So gamemode is now part of the installation and on board by default. If and when to use it however is still up to the user.
A known issue is that the firstbootscript doesn’t remove the kernel 6.12 in favor of the lts kernel. If you encounter problems please select the lts kernel from grub menu, and vkpurge 6.12 by hand.
20250404
Lazyvoid has now it’s own git repository from wich the scripts will be updated automatically whenever there is a useful change.(https://github.com/Barba-Q/lazyvoid/tree/main)
So is the last version you have to reinstall if you want to have the newest lazyvoid shit. If your system is working well, stay with it.
Some updates within the scripts:
Check for a running gnome session works now on wayland as well as on X
Debugging deactivated by default
Scripts are more robust to errors and wont quit, or hang anymore (happened sometimes when network connection wasn’t up fast enough)
Kernel parameters removed. The effects on the lts kernel are not so beneficial that it is worthwhile
And that’s it. If you don’t want to reinstall your lazyvoid you can simply replace the scripts with those from the git repository. If you modify any script for your preferences you need to remove or comment the section “Updating Lazyvoid scripts”

Packages updated
Non LTS Version ditched
20250209
There is now a version with LTS kernel
It turned out that Nvidia drivers (who else) can cause problems with newer kernel versions, this is of course not a conducive user experience so the LTS variant will become the default version of Lazy Void in the short term and after some testing.
20250203
Packages updated
Old and unused Flatpak stuff will now be uninstalled with bootscript to free space. This is a safe an common method, otherwise the disk will be flooded with old flatpak stuff like nvidia drivers, kde or gnome related files over time.
Bluetooth speakers and headsets should work now as they should
Android File Transfer is now included to easily access android devices
The scripts are working extremely well and to my surprise i get feedback every now and then on how convenient lazy-void is for an everyday use case. So thanks for the support an warm words.

This update is mainly to boost lazy voids initial performance. Especially for intel hardware changes should have a noticable impact.
Packages updated
Automatic updates were moved to boot script so shutdown or reboot wont take such a long time (depending on updates) anymore. So shutdownscript is ditched completely
Intel cores will be detected by firstboot now so some specific packages could be installed to boost performance
Some Kernelparameters were added to boost performance:
mitigations=off
preempt=full
nowatchdog
I’m still working on calamares Installer and a small repository to keep my scripts in up to date when there are critical changes.
20240812
Lazyvoid is now on Gnome.
One word on that change: Latest tests showed that the performance benefit from lxqt over Gnome is not that much to make the discomfort worth it. Gnome is fully featured with everything one need to do everyday stuff. It has feature complete settings, graphical software store for flatpaks, easy extension management and is in its current state stable and reliable.
Automated features like updates and snapshots are still in full force so lazy void wont bother you, a gtk’ey Service manager will follow.
20240730
Automatic Snapshots on every boot. Snapshots are limited to 3 at a time, the oldest one will always be deleted. This function is forcefully activated if the root filesystem is btrfs formatted and the home folder is on a separate partition.
20240712
AMD an Intel users will no longer suffer from nomodeset parameter
Bluetooth support integrated to the desktop
20240624
Due to the nouveau incompatibility issues with newer nvidia chipsets, ‘nomodeset’ is set by default to the kernel parameters. The firstboot-script will force an installation of proprietary nvidia drivers when nvidia hardware is detected
some cleanup within the scripts
20240618
General software update due to several impactful LXQT updates
More convenient panel design
Fixed: unable to remove a flatpak from flatpak helper
Fixed an error in Firstboot script wich stated that xbps needs an update all the time.
